In June, Crayons to Classrooms hosted two Make & Take Days for local teachers, where teachers volunteer and, in return, they earn a mini shopping trip at Crayons to Classrooms. During these special volunteer days, teachers volunteer for either one shift (2.5 hours) or two shifts (5 hours) creating Classroom Solutions (CS) products to stock the store for the upcoming school year. The events were held at Crayons to Classrooms’ Teacher Resource Center on June 6th and June 22nd.
Throughout the two Make & Take Days, 53 teachers completed over 1,700 CS products. Teachers were assigned a CS product to work on with 2-3 other teachers throughout the event. Several teachers created current popular products for our store such as emotion sliders, origami sheets, multicultural hands and feet, and clock faces. Other teachers were creating brand new products such as lacing bears, frog life cycle kits, and cardboard counters. Over $5,580 worth of Classroom Solutions products were were distributed during the mini shop after the events.
Make & Take Days support Crayons to Classrooms’ Volunteer to Shop (VTS) program. Almost half of the teachers who participated in Make & Take Days this summer were VTS teachers from ineligible schools.
Old Scratch Pizza’s Cones for a Cause and LCNB National Bank generously sponsored these special volunteer days by providing funding for materials.
