The Troy Foundation Funds Shops for Troy City Schools

April 23, 2026

The Troy Foundation awarded Crayons to Classrooms (C2C) with a grant to support teachers at eligible schools in Troy, Ohio. C2C serves four elementary schools within Troy City Schools – Cookson, Forest, Heywood, and Kyle. At each of these schools, over 60% of students utilize the National School Lunch Program. Approximately 115 teachers and 967 students benefit from C2C’s free shopping program.

Troy educators drive an hour round trip to support their students by getting essential supplies from C2C. They fill their shopping carts with crayons, notebooks, glue, books, puzzles, art supplies, materials for science experiments and financial literacy, and more.

“Crayons to Classrooms allowed me to provide bookbags and basic school supplies to students at no out of pocket cost to me,” shares Ms. McGuire, first grade teacher at Heywood Elementary. In a recent survey, local teachers shared that 71% of their students lack the supplies they need to succeed throughout the entire school year. C2C’s shopping program ensures that free supplies go directly from the resource center into the hands of local educators to be used in their classroom by their students in need.

Teachers from Troy City Schools have “shopped” for over $22,800 in free supplies this school year. This is the third year that C2C has been able to serve any of these elementary schools thanks to generous funding from organizations like The Troy Foundation. Support from the Troy Foundation makes it possible to distribute tens of thousands in free essential school supplies to teachers from these schools. Crayons to Classrooms staff and committee members choose new schools to add to the eligible schools list each spring. Find more information about shopping at the teacher resource center by visiting the teacher page on C2C’s website.
