On May 7th, 188 teachers shopped around Crayons to Classrooms’ (C2C) resource center and enjoyed live music, gourmet hot dogs, and PepsiCo drinks of their choice during C2C’s Thanks-A-Million teacher appreciation event. Over 20 volunteers and staff members stood at booths and tables handing out bags full of gifts, books, dry erase boards, personal care items, and tickets to local events. With hands full, teachers stood in line at Zombie Dogz food truck and made their way to the raffle tables while giveaway winners were called throughout the event.
Over 40 individuals and local organizations generously donated either an item for every teacher to take home with them or raffle items that 89 teachers were able to enjoy. Every teacher walked away with at least $550 worth of free gifts. Crayons to Classrooms distributed a total of $113,590.72 worth of items at Thanks-A-Million. The event’s sponsor, Linda Nervis, local State Farm Agent, volunteered at the event, along with other donors such as ACCO Brands, Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, and PepsiCo. Teachers enjoyed music played by Woody, morning host for K99.1FM, and BJSR with the Levitt Pavilion in Dayton.
Teachers shared their gratitude during the event about how good it felt to be appreciated and recognized for their hard work and commitment to their job and students. One Montgomery County teacher shared the following: “…friends…Overwhelmed! And overjoyed! That’s how I felt yesterday, with the recognition, the gifts and cool things for my students and myself. I actually almost choked up at the last station (white board giver), pretended allergies were getting me. Thank you for all you do to support us as we support our students. Our kids have so many more opportunities because of the supplies I’m able to get from you all.”
