CenterPoint Energy Foundation Invests in Miami Valley STEM Education

November 10, 2025

On National STEM Day, November 8th, Crayons to Classrooms was thrilled to share the invaluable support Crayons to Classrooms (C2C) receives from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to help fuel our STEM program. This $20,000 grant will support the sourcing and distribution of STEM supplies through our Teacher Resource Center for the 2025-26 school year.

Many local teachers regularly report spending their own funds to accommodate needs in their classrooms. STEM supplies often present a greater burden on teachers’ personal expenses than other areas of learning.

In the 2024 STEM survey, 68% of teachers at C2C’s partner schools indicate that their STEM teaching is affected by a lack of supplies. To help enhance STEM learning for students across Miami Valley PreK–12 schools, C2C provides classrooms with essential tools like safety goggles, compasses, protractors, calculators, index cards, and rulers – just a few of the many items teachers rely on. “STEM and science materials have really helped me in my classroom,” shared Julie Stringer, West Carrollton Intermediate science and social studies teacher. “I am able to do more hands-on activities thanks to Crayons to Classrooms!”

Funds from this grant will also support the production of curricular materials designed and produced in-house at C2C. These handmade items, produced by volunteers, are known as Classroom Solutions. Teachers can use these materials for hands-on science and math activities tied to common core standards and STEM learning.

CenterPoint Energy Vice President for Community Relations June Deadrick remarked, “The CenterPoint Energy Foundation is proud to support educational programs that increase access, excitement and interest in STEM.”

Thanks to the CenterPoint Energy Foundation’s focus on STEM needs in education, students have better access to STEM learning in under-resourced schools in the Miami Valley.
