Crayons to Classrooms Expands First-Year Teacher Program

August 12, 2025

This summer, Crayons to Classrooms expanded its First-Year Teacher Program, welcoming Cedarville University as a new partner alongside Wright State University.

Twelve graduates from Cedarville’s May 2022 education program attended the event as they begin their first year teaching in local schools this fall. Joined by our staff and a Cedarville faculty member, these first-year teachers shopped for core school supplies, classroom decorations, books, hygiene products, and more to prepare their first classrooms.

This marks the third year Crayons to Classrooms has hosted Wright State University alumni for this special shopping event. In total, 70 teachers participated, many filling two carts with essential items to launch their teaching careers.

Over just two days, the teacher resource center provided more than $106,000 in free supplies to new teachers—an investment in classrooms that will impact students for years to come. In its first two years, the program distributed $123,000 in supplies, and this year’s event nearly matched that total.

Thank you to the Dayton Rotary Foundation and Gerald and Carole Miller Foundation for funding this program. Their support allows us to make sure that new teachers in C2C eligible schools receive supplies for their students through our resource center.
