Crayons to Classrooms (C2C) received $23,077.26 in essential school supplies and $2,290 in financial donations at the 7 Circle of Kindness School Supply Drive partnered with WHIO Channel 7. The Teacher Resource Center’s staff and volunteers collected supplies at two Walmart locations in the Miami Valley from 10-6pm to collect core school supplies such as markers, colored pencils, notebooks, and glue sticks for students in need.
The community stepped up in a big way, donating exactly what local teachers need most. One donor even shared that she kept a sticky note in her car as a reminder to bring in her contribution. That small note turned into a big impact—she showed up with a truck full of supplies to support C2C’s mission. This year’s supply drive surpasses last year’s total by $8,000. A recent survey of local teachers reveals that 71% of students in C2C’s service area lack the supplies they need to succeed throughout the entire school year.
In a story filmed with Channel 7 before the event, second grade teacher, Joey Noel, shared that without Crayons to Classrooms she would “spend about $1,000, easily” on classroom items each school year. The DECA Prep teacher shared that now when sees that one of her students needs a school supply, she goes back to her “Crayons to Classrooms stash” and just puts it on their desk.
Last school year, C2C distributed over $2.8 million supplies to 2,327 teachers. You can still support C2C’s mission this back-to-school season by donating school supplies, making a one-time financial donation, or becoming a Backpack Booster by giving monthly for teachers and students at under-resourced schools.
