$40 Million and Counting: Crayons to Classrooms’ Ongoing Impact

March 7, 2025

Each new year brings new excitement for Crayons to Classrooms’ (C2C) mission and serving teachers and students in need. This past January was increasingly exciting because C2C surpassed $40 Million in distributions to local teachers since opening in 2009! Currently serving over 4,000 teachers in 143 Miami Valley schools, the Teacher Resource Center continues to support local teachers of low-income students.

During the 2023-24 school year alone, C2C distributed 8,217 packs of crayons and 12,729 packs of pencils to local teachers. The value of an average shopping trip is $769. Teachers not only fill their carts with necessary core school supplies, but they also take books, classroom decorations, cleaning supplies, and more back to their under-resourced students.

Mrs. Sumner, an ELA teacher at David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center, understands that the right tools can shape a student’s journey—both inside and outside the classroom.

Crayons to Classrooms has been the best thing ever for me and my students,” she shares. “Instead of spending my own limited funds, I can stock up on essentials that keep my students focused on learning.”

Crayons to Classrooms, in partnership with community supporters, volunteers, and donors, equips teachers with essential school supplies—allowing them to focus on teaching while their students stay focused on learning. Every year, the resource center adds new schools to their eligible schools list and distributes millions of dollars in supplies.
